This project is scheduled for June 2024 and takes place in Samoa. You will be going to one of the most remote and exotic parts of the world. Once you have completed your big journey to Samoa you will have a brief stay in the capital (Apia), and then we will make our way from the island of Upolu to the island of Savai'i, which takes up to 90 minutes by boat. From there, we will make our way to the beautiful coastal project site village where we will be staying. The project is 8 days in duration, with plenty of time free to explore further. You will be working directly with our team in Samoa on important work to foster coral restoration (e.g., for approximately 5 hours per day). Time will also be spent doing some sightseeing to exciting locations, as well as enjoying evenings spent around a lovely bonfire with friends and other participants from around the world. Your meals and accommodation will be provided while you are on site with us. We may not be able to accommodate all dietary restrictions, but we do provide both traditional and vegetarian options. You are responsible for the costs and arrangements of your travel to Samoa, and for any additional food or accommodations and items or services not project related. A CDG representative will pick you up from, and return you to, the airport that you arrive at and depart from. Please bring/provide the following: appropriate clothing for this project (i.e., wide brimmed hat, light-weight and color pants and long-sleeved shirts; sunscreen; any and all medications and special items that you may need; proof of travel insurance; your flight itinerary; and notification of any allergies we should ideally be aware of).
The coral restoration project(s) require participants to bring their own properly fitted diving mask and snorkel. Fins are considered optional given the shallow water dives being done. We will not be doing deep dives beyond 30 feet. Nor will we be staying in the water for extended periods of time requiring scuba tanks. As both are important factors to consider to avoid potential issues such as the bends (i.e., decompression sickness). We will not be diving for a 24 hour period prior to our return flights home.
Given the nature of the projects, all participants must sign a general waiver in order to take part, and provide proof of travel insurance coverage, and provide us with your flight itinerary so we know when you are scheduled to arrive and depart.
The cost per person per project is $1250US (which is approximately £995), which includes your donation to the project and equipment, your main accommodation and meals, some exciting sightseeing, your fees to CDG for organizing and operating the sustainable development work, and your certificate of completion. We accept major international payment methods, such as Stripe (which includes bank cards, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Union Pay, Discover, JCB, Google Wallet, Apple Pay, etc.), PayPal, as well as direct payment options. Our refund policy is 100% (minus your credit card transaction fee) up to 10 weeks prior to commencement of the project, at which point funds will be non-refundable and fully allocated to project expenses, equipment, and related costs. Please let us know if you will not be taking part as soon as you are able, so that we may notify someone on our waiting list and ideally give them ample time to prepare for the project.
Upon purchase the mandatory project waiver will be emailed to you for signing. It must be signed and returned prior to departure.
Those participating will be sent a brief checklist of things to do and bring, and we will be providing you updates as the project approaches.
For participants, it would be helpful if you could provide a brief paragraph telling us a little about yourself and why you would like to take part in this project.
We look forward to you joining us on this important and exciting journey of a lifetime.
